ee would be excited to come out with a theme camp, and has been on this property before. EE is a Chicago-based marching and circus band with lots of burning man experience. Are there grants for transportation, or low budget tickets for groups?
03/16/2009
Good Question Mike!
Unfortunately, LoF is not in a position to offer Art Grants of any kind just yet. However, there is a certain Art Grant Committee in Chicago that is doing some grants specifically for Lakes of Fire.
It might be worth a shot.

i’m interested in putting together a small camp-like art installation but it’ll need some juice. juice as in AC power (dc probably won’t really cut the mustard). Any infrastructure available on this? i’d hate to hook up a tiny noisy honda genny just for me, maybe some of us can share a larger, quieter more efficient one?
05/05/2009
The availability of electricity is somewhat limited, and you’ll have to talk to the placement team to see if you can get some. It’s probably a safe bet to plan for bringing out a generator.
05/14/2009
Hello Theme Camps!!
Please be advised that Juice at Decomp (ie.-electricity) will not be something the Placement Team will be able to provide you with at this years Lakes of Fire.
Therefore PLEASE Bring your Generators!
Also PLEASE do not forget to fill out a Theme Camp/Art form so we know you are coming and what you are bringing so that you can be PLACED! We would not want you to be disappointed if you show up and we have not taken your camp or project into consideration and have no where to put your creation!
We look forward to working with you!!

What’s the deadline for theme camp registration?
I’m trying to get my group to come up with some ideas, but its going to be a few days before we’re prepped enough to fill out the form. All i know now is we will have a dj stand on top of a vanagon, small sound system & Generator(same as what we had at decomp), and maybe a ‘ring or fire’ display if we can get it working. Is it best to fill this out now, and make changes later if needed?
Thanks!
05/28/2009
Fill out the form as best you can, but make it clear that your final details are still “emerging.”
05/28/2009
Hey I’m Gaius and this will be my first LoF. I usually through a toga party at INterfuse each year and make a damn fine Interfuse Punch in 5 gallon lots. 5 gallons got about 30 people trashed last month but everyone had a fun time. I’ll be bringing a generator, solar panels, and a blender for frozen margaritas. Gaius
05/29/2009
Sounds awesome. Be sure to fill out the Theme Camp form.

Greetings Pyros!
If you’ve looked at your calendar lately you’ll realize that we are just a short 30 days out from our first regional burn, Lakes Of Fire!
Are you planning a Theme Camp? As your mapping mistress, I urge any of you who have interest in having your camp featured on our downloadable map of the event to fill out the Theme Camp Placement Form ASAP!
We will also be creating a listing of info for Theme Camps on the Lakes Of Fire site which can be downloaded and will also be sent to subscribers. So, if you want your message to get out to the participants, get it to us!
We already have 3 big sound camps (including the Freakeasy, LOF version 1) and two big fire art projects, a movie theater on wheels, a pizza kitchen and the very Eye of God!
What are you bringing?
We need your info by June 14th to be placed and added to the map. That’s just over two weeks away… yikes!
If you’re even considering having a camp or want your art to be featured, please let us know here:
http://www.lakesoffire.org/theme-camps/art-theme-camp-placement-form
Thanks!

The Quixotic Windmill Burn Documentary –
After a 4 year wait the story of the Quixotic Windmill burn has finally been released!
The Quixotic (quick-sot-ic) Project was founded in 2005 by two dozen people in the Metro Detroit area, and about another dozen from across the country. That year we headed from Detroit to the Black Rock desert outside Reno, NV at the Burning Man festival to build three 20′ Dutch style Windmills. Amid dust storms and 70 mile per hour winds we took three moving embodiments of peoples fears and nightmares and burnt them down in a mad rush of knights with flaming lances.
The Quixotic Documentary chronicles each step that turned this crazy idea into a series of parties, giant sculptures, a fiery battle, and finally ash and memories.

Camp CANabUS – “All good things in moderation, including moderation itself”
Camp CANabUS, is an international group of ‘burners at heart’ from both CANada, and the US, along with our playa-fied monkey mascot Caaaaaarrrrll. Beware of Caaaarlll though, he can be a little naughty at times, and we encourage spanking our monkey when he gets out of hand. We’re a fun loving crew that specializes in Pirating and Ninja skills. Most of us have undergone years of extensive training from the great and knowledgeable St John Jameson, more commonly known as the patron saint of whiskeys. You can track us down by following the sound of shenanigans, constant laughter, and of course good music.
Our camp will feature the return of the Blue Bomber, a bad ass 1984 vw Vanagon converted into a mobile rooftop DJ Stand, including nightly performances by the infamous DJ Martin Southall. Ignore the outdated saying, but instead “If this van’s a rockin…come a-knockin”
Some of the other goodies and activities which Camp CANabUS will feature include:
* Bag o’ Wine Limbo – How low can YOU go? Participants must be over 21 or have a really good fake id. Be sure to bring a friend or 2 to be a ‘spotter’ for you, and of course to take pictures of the hijinks. A kid friendly version of this activity can also be rigged up with a less potent bag o fruit punch limbo. We’ll try to do this before sundown every night (better for picture taking), but it can be setup in an instant any time day or night.
* Frozen Popsicles, Pudding, and Jello shots – throughout the weekend. Great way to beat the heat.
* Ray’s Music eXchange – Got some old music that’s you’ve been burnt out on for years? Or just something that is so good you have to share with others? Or maybe you just want to ride home from LOF w/ some new tunes to massage your ears. Bring your old used cd’s and we will exchange them for something new of your (our our) choosing. We don’t need to keep your old cd’s if you want them back, but we would like to add them to the ever growing library.
* Fire Pit for roasting marshmallows, making smores, but mostly because we all love to play with a good FIRE!!
Have fun and always remember, Safety THIRD

This will be my first time participating at anything like this. So, I’m kinda confused.. Do you guys just make friends with people and join their camps or what? Any more info would be great!
01/29/2010
Good question, Meghan:
The Info-bot recommends that you either try to put together a theme camp all your own, or talk to friends and others who may be attending Lakes Of Fire to see how to get involved in their camps. There’s no “one right way” to go about!
