Lakes Of Fire | June 24 – 27, 2010

Location and Travel Information

Lakes of Fire is located in Lacota, Michigan.

If traveling by car, you’ll find our site is roughly 2 hours from Chicago, 3.5 hours from Detroit, 4 hours from Milwaukee, or Indianapolis, and 7 hours from Toronto.

If flying is a part of your travel plans, we recommend that you fly into one of the two Chicago-area airports. (Flights to Midway are usually somewhat cheaper, and incidentally Midway is just a little closer to our location than O’Hare.) It’s possible to fly into Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids, Michigan, or into South Bend or Gary, Indiana. Although these cities are closer to our location than either of the major Chicago airports, flights to these smaller, regional airports are usually more costly, with the occasional exception of flying into Gary. Flights to Detroit are often reasonably priced as well, but Detroit is considerably further away from our location than is Chicago.

Amtrak has daily runs from both Chicago and Detroit that stop in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Kalamazoo is just one hour from our location.

Greyhound Bus Lines have a stop in South Haven, Michigan, as well. South Haven is just a short ten-minute ride from our site.

The excitement is building!

Will the first Great Lakes Regional Burn have direct access to Lake Michigan from the campgrounds?

(If the answer is to revealing for this stage no problem, I’ll just be patient.)

Unfortunately not. The site is approximately 15 minutes from Lake Michigan.

So there’s no LAKE in the ‘Lakes of Fire’?

Our location is roughly 15 minutes from South Haven beach, but no, the site does not include lakefront property.

gk, the Lake in Lakes of Fire currently refers to the Great Lakes states (and Canadian province) that are pulling together to create the event.

I am hopeful that someone within the community will volunter-ipate and create a shuttle service to Lake Michigan. Anyone want to step up and be the rockstar that makes that happen? If so, I’ll be happy to talk to you in my role as Mistress of the Gate to help figure out an effective in / out plan for the shuttle service.

Thanks!

I’m buying my tickets this weekend. I’ll be bringing a generator (very quiet one) solar panels, and a blender for frozen margaritas. I through a toga party at every Interfuse and might do the same at Lakes of Fire with 5 gallons of Interfuse Punch. Gaius

The Amtrak directions mention Kalamazoo, but I believe there is also a Bangor Amtrak stop which is only about 10 miles away. Is that correct? If so, perhaps I could come by Amtrak & bicycle.

Thanks!

You would have to check with Amtrak about that. The Info-Bot is not unaware of any stops in Bangor, MI.

I got tickets into Grand Rapids for a pretty good price, connecting in Chicago, from San Francisco, for Rothbury, the weekend after this.

Just found out about this. Wondering about changing tix! :P

Google maps says 65 miles from GRR to the site.
