It is with beyond heavy hearts that G.L.E.A. Inc. must inform our Lakes of Fire family that 2010’s Leave No Trace Team Lead, Ryan “Quest” Dunn, passed from this life on the morning of June 30th.

We send our deepest condolences to his wife Tiffany; his family and friends from Illinois and Southwest Michigan; and to the many Burners and non-Burners alike, from all over; who were touched by this eminently sincere, humble, and sweet soul, whom we called Quest.

Quest radiated a quiet intensity. He smiled often, worked incredibly hard, and was about the easiest to person to like you could ever meet. He was awed by life, and in turn he awed so many of us back. Whatever are the opposites of arrogant, or self-righteous; Quest was these things, to the extreme. His gracefully down-to-earth charm and sense of humor were a breath of fresh air, and he will be deeply, deeply missed.

When G.L.E.A. Inc. and Lakes of Fire first came to the Willow Ranch, Quest was among the employees connected to the land. Impressed by what he saw at Lakes of Fire 2009, he was convinced to visit Burning Man that year, and returned to Lakes of Fire 2010 as LNT Team Lead – a difficult and often thankless task that requires you to work lots of long hours when everyone else is leaving the place, exhausted. He performed the task with his typical grace and gusto, quietly and quickly making sure our footprint disappeared. Other event volunteers were amazed that the job was done so early – many of us left hours before we thought we would be able to.

Quest got it done, and he did so with a smile. He was a born collaborator.

To make a donation to Tiffany and the Dunn family, please click on the Paypal button below. Please note the G.L.E.A. Inc. will pass along 100% of your donations.

Quest we love you.

Enjoy the light, as we so enjoyed yours.

A ginormous thank you to all of the incredible humanoids that graced Lakes of Fire 2010 (A Spaced Oddity). Your artistry, your energy, your joie de vivre and wild spirit made this year’s event fully twice as big as 2009’s inaugural Lakes of Fire. Of course the bacon, the beats, the blinkies and the crazy costumes didn’t hurt either . . . nor did all that delicious beer!

Watching the Bacon Beacon fall brought tears to this Info-bot’s eyes, which is something considering my emotional responses are pre-programmed algorithms, and that I have no tear ducts.

You can put out lost and found requests at our interactive forum found here, or if you’d prefer, you can post them directly onto the Forum page on the website, found here.

A page for pictures, videos, and reflections will be forthcoming very soon. Please note that once you have posted content to LakesofFire.org, G.L.E.A. Inc. reserves the right to re-post your material for promotional purposes.

Thank you again for making Lakes of Fire 2010 (A Spaced Oddity) a magical event for everyone.

Lakes of Fire 2010 (A Spaced Oddity) open its doors in just a couple days. That tingling in your loins? That’s the excitement building in your Joy Zone. As a brief reminder – please be aware that this is an OUTDOOR, all-weather event. Plan for rain folks – especially if you’re arriving Thursday!

The Info-bot will no longer be answering questions as of 11:59 PM tonight, June 21st, 2010 – the evening/night of the summer solstice.

If you need help on something related to Lakes of Fire 2010 (A Spaced Oddity) please consult your survival guide, the forum, or the section of this website that relates to your question!! http://www.lakesoffire.org

A BRIEF WORD ON TICKETING:
When you bought your ticket, Black Rock Tickets emailed you a link:

http://blackrocktickets.com/buy/purchases/

That link will take you to your ticket(s). There is a login in the upper right corner of the website; type in the email and password you used to buy your tickets. Then print your ticket(s). These print outs are what you bring to the gate as your ticket. Adult tickets
have barcodes. Each barcode is unique, will be scanned at the gate, and will only admit one person. Kids tickets (for those aged 12 and under) do not have bar codes.

Tickets are NOT coming in the mail, as they did last year. If you don’t print out your ticket and remember to bring it with you, you’re going to have way less of a good time, because you will not be allowed in to Lakes of Fire. And that’s no fun at all. Our Gate volunteers are wonderfully pleasant and loving people. And they are also under strict orders, and will become extremely hard-nosed when this situation arises.

No ticket? No entry. No exceptions.

Finally, be sure to bring your ID to the gate. We will be checking ages at the Gate.

This awesome Survival Guide that tells you everything you need to know to make your Lakes of Fire 2010 the most amazing experience possible. Read it . . . all of it!!

http://www.lakesoffire.org/survival-guide/

CONCLAVE
Fire performers! Want to perform in your Conclave? Please remember that you must participate in one of our two Fire Safety Sessions at the Fire Safety Camp, located in the heart of Firetown, to perform at Conclave. These sessions will take place at 4:00 PM on both Friday and Saturday. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE 6:00 PM SATURDAY START TIME IN THE WHAT-WHERE-WHEN IS INCORRECT!!!!

PHOTOGRAPHY: PROCEED WITH RESPECT
Lakes of Fire is a private event on private property, and we expect participants to approach photography with respect for others. You must ask permission before photographing someone, and avoid photography that could be intrusive of someone’s privacy. Do not take or publish, in any manner, ANY unauthorized pictures of any human subject, or any pictures for a commercial purpose.

We reserve the right to act on any violation of these guidelines by requiring erasure of images, or by removing violators of these policies from Lakes of Fire.

FIRE: YOU KNOW YOU LOVE IT!
Fire is a spectacular part of our event. Volunteers are working with local fire authorities to safely enact the best fire effects possible.

PERSONAL CAMPFIRES- You can make small personal campfires or bring fire barrels, and there are several dozen rings throughout the site to facilitate small fires. Please use common sense. Clear an area around your fire, don’t have it too near your tent, and keep some water or dirt on hand to put it out if the wind kicks up. Do not, ever, leave a fire unattended!

FIRE CONCLAVE– You’ll have the opportunity to participate in our killer Fire Conclave procession and performance before the Effigy burns! There will be a full rehearsal and safety training (non-fire) Friday night. Every group will need its own Fire Safeties with wet towels, etc. At the end of the training, all performers and safeties will get Conclave laminates which will let you enter the Fire Circle Saturday night. You must be completely sober to participate in any fire performance. You will be using a safety system for fire performers that follows the national fire codes. The full procedure will be sent out to the accepted fire groups before the event.

To get in on performing on conclave, you must attend our Fire Safety sessions at our Fire Safety Camp at 4:00 PM on Friday the 25th, or 4:00 PM on Saturday the 26th.

Sign-up to perform at Conclave here: http://www.lakesoffire.org/event/fire-safety-performance/fire-performe rs-q-a/

FIRE SPINNING– Our deal with the Township says that all fire on the grounds–including poi– will be safe and legal. Not sure how to do that? We will have a pamphlet for all fire artists at the gate. A few things to remember: Never leave unattended fuel on the ground, always have a fire safety with you with an extinguisher and/or wet towels on hand.

FIRE CANNONS, FLAMETHROWERS, ETC. If you wish to bring larger-scale fire devices, you must contact Russian Wulfgar at fireconclave@lakesoffire.org. Failure to contact the Fire Safety team regarding these devices will be grounds for their disuse during the event. These devices can only be used in open areas, not among the tents. The Fire Chief has a right to inspect them for safety. They must be attended at all times and have a fire extinguisher nearby.

The Fire Safety & Performance Team is here for your safety! Fire staff has the right to shut down any use of fire that threatens other attendees, endangers the event, or breaks our agreement with the local fire authorities. Failure to abide with Fire Safety protocols may be
grounds for your immediate removal from this event.

Can’t wait to see you at Lakes of Fire.

Great Googly Moogly!!

Lakes of Fire 2010 (A Spaced Oddity) open its Gates in under a week! There’s a lot of information here, as usual, but you need to know this stuff . . . . check it.

VOLUNTEER-IPATION: WE NEED YOU!
One of the things that makes Lakes Of Fire so special is that it’s a 100% volunteer-run event. This means that all of our staff, even our organizers and team leads are volunteers. But these moties can’t do everything! WE NEED YOU to step up and Volunteer this year! Read more about Team Descriptions and sign up on our volunteer roster <a href='http://www.lakesoffire.org/event/volunteer-ipate/">here

Email breedlove@lakesoffire.org for more information.

Here are some our immediate needs for volunteers:

- MEDICAL/EMT: Anyone with experience in Medical or EMT is always called to join our elite crew. This year at LoF we don’t have as many Medical volunteers as we’d like. So if you’ve got the skills- step up!

- RANGERS: Are you a trained Ranger? This year we’ve got a few open day time slots to fill up with our friends in Khaki. We’ll also be doing Ranger Training on site this year at LOF!

- GATE: We’ve got a few open shifts for gate crew at the moment.
Thurs 4-8pm & 8p-12am | Fri 12-4pm, 4-8pm, 8pm-12am | Sat. 8am-12pm

- EFFIGY: Effigy still needs Lighthouse Keepers during the event to keep watch over the lighthouse! It’s low-stress and is about communicating safety concerns and information about the lighthouse.

- DPW: is in need of additional crew pre-event (Tue – Wed) and during the earliest hours of LoF (Thurs p.m.) to assist in the proper installation of signs, lighting and perimeter fencing. In addition, final site preparations will require on-call DPW crew to be available on an as-needed basis (moving stuff, digging stuff, unsucking things that suck). Most tasks will be physical, somewhat dirty but not gross (ok, maybe gross), and require a safe but get-er-done-well approach. If this quickens your pulse, contact Dirtball Dan at trev10dan@gmail.com or Gietzen at thegietzen@comcast.net . . . . . like now . . . . . . . why are you still reading?

Our map for 2010 is also available – Check it out!

CONCLAVE
Want to perform in our Conclave? Sign up here!

You must participate in one of our two Fire Safety Sessions at the Fire Safety Camp, located in the heart of Firetown. These sessions will take place at 4:00 PM on both Friday and Saturday. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE 6:00 P.M. START TIME FOR FRIDAY’S SESSION, FOUND ON THE WHAT WHERE WHEN IS INCORRECT!!!!!

MEDICAL:: YOU NEED A HERO?!?!?
A volunteer Medical Team will be on hand to assist and triage any medical problems or injuries. On-duty Medical Team members can be identified by their yellow t-shirts. Additionally, any Ranger will also be able to assist you in obtaining medical assistance. The Medical Tent will be clearly marked on the Lakes Of Fire map. You may seek assistance there directly. They will then be able to facilitate bringing you to the Medical Tent or the ambulance to you if necessary.

Self-reliance is one of the tenets of Burning Man. Please help us to help you by bringing a basic first-aid kit with each group, and knowing how to use the contents. If you have a pre-existing Medical condition that you feel may become a problem during the event, please make a campmate(s) aware of it so that they may be of assistance to the Medical Team. If you have any questions, feel free to approach any on-duty medical personnel. In the event you need to be evacuated to a hospital or wish to travel to one yourself, the two facilities in the area are South Haven Community Hospital in South Haven or Allegan General Hospital in Allegan. The Medical Team will have location information on these hospitals.

KIDS: IF YOU TICKETED THEM, BRING ‘EM!
Lakes of Fire is a family event that welcomes participants of all ages. If you bought kids’ tickets (12 and unders) you’ll see they do not have barcodes on them since they were “sold” at no cost to you. Kids 13 – 17 have standard tickets with barcodes. Regardless of their age, all under 18’s must arrive with their parent / guardian and check in with them at the Gate.

All attendees under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a 21+ parent or guardian both at entry, as well as during the event. You are responsible for the welfare of minors in your care. Please be aware that there may be adult-specific activities or theme camps, and that grown-ups may not wish to curtail their own free expression to accommodate your children, or minors in your care.

For the protection of kids at Lakes of Fire, all parents & guardians sign in with their kids (or minors in their care) at the Gate. Each minor will be issued an identifying bracelet

For more tips on how to negotiate bringing your children to a Burning
Man event, please see this informative page on BM.com.

PETS: SORRY!
With the specific exception of ADA Qualified assistance dogs, pets are NOT allowed at Lakes of Fire. The Event volunteers have chosen to adhere to this rule, and we have puppies too. Your pet will be turned away at the gate and you won’t be admitted until you return without any pets.

That’s all for now!

A BRIEF WORD ON TICKETING:
When you bought your ticket, Black Rock Tickets emailed you a link. “http://blackrocktickets.com/buy/purchases/” That link will take you to your ticket(s). There is a login in the upper right corner of the website; type in the email and password you used to buy your tickets, and print your ticket(s).

On a more sun-shiney note, Lakes of Fire’s crack communications team has put together this awesome Survival Guide that tells you everything you need to know to make your Lakes of Fire 2010 the most amazing experience possible. “http://www.lakesoffire.org/survival-guide/” Read it . . . all of it!!

EFFIGY: YOUR BIG FIRE!
The Effigy is the large wooden sculpture in the open area near the stage area. The burning of the Effigy is the pinnacle of Lakes of Fire; the culminating part of this event. The Effigy team works very hard, long hours to build it for your enjoyment. Please respect it by not smoking, using open flame, intentionally damaging, burning or disrespecting the piece in any way. The Effigy will be burned on the final night of Lakes of Fire (Saturday). Until then, it is there for your enjoyment, reflection, pictures, and happiness. A method of sacrifice/offering/ prayer/memory additions of your own to the Effigy will be detailed at the event.

PARKING: Limited.
Please consider car-pooling with friends, family, camp-mates, or random strangers. Lakes of Fire’s site has parking available, but it is limited. Upon arrival, you may drop off your gear at your location, and then you will be asked-politely, at first-to return your car to the parking lot. Our Parking Team is helpful and rarely abusive. These lovely people will find you a parking place that will ensure that everyone will be able to get their car out in case of an emergency or other urgent need to leave the event. We ask . . . if you do have to leave . . . when you return, please stop back at parking for us to find you another parking spot. The only vehicles that will be allowed in campsites are those that are actually being camped in. These important protocols are in place to prevent a traffic nightmare during Exodus, when everyone is leaving, all at once. There are certain locations on Lakes of Fire’s site that are inaccessible to vehicles.

EXODUS: GET OUTTA HERE!
Lakes of Fire ends at 4:00 PM, Sunday, June 27th. All participants must be packed up (including your trash!) and out of the gate by that time. No exceptions. This allows DPW and EG volunteers to do their job. If you’d like to volunteer, see the volunteers section. Please adhere to Exodus directions from the Gate/Exodus staff. It is vital that the local community be respected as people leave the event. This means that everything you pack out ends up at your own home, NOT on the side of the road or in private dumpsters!

DPW: WORKIN IT!
Lakes of Fire happens in part through the hard work of a few bold soldiers known as the Department of Public Works. The DPW reminds you that if it’s not yours, don’t mess with it. Things put in place by DPW, like safety barriers, are there for a reason. Please respect those things and avoid damaging or altering them, lest you wish to be damaged or altered.

That’s all for now!

Can’t wait to see you at Lakes of Fire!

Saturday – June 26th, 2010
12:00 Midnight – 6:00 PM – Gate closes.
Participants only! No spectators please. You must be on-site by 6:00 P.M. to participate in Lakes of Fire. No admittance will be allowed after this time.

Sunday, June 27th, 2010
All participants except for organizers, DPW, and Earth Guardians must be off the property by 4:00 P.M. No exceptions.

SOUND: PROTOCOLS
Excessive sound is the single most likely reason that law enforcement officers will visit Lakes of Fire and, incidentally, your campsite. The rules are as follows.

1) You must report the sound equipment you have with you at the Greeters’ Station, even if it’s just a boom-box.
2) The Sound Squad (Rangers, Organizers, and Sound Team Volunteers) may ask you to turn your volume down to safer levels, or even completely off. You must respect these requests.
3) You may not use sub-woofers after 11:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 24th; 11:59 P.M. on Friday, June 25th; or 2:00 A.M. on Sunday, June 26th. Sub-woofers can be turned on again at 11:00 A.M. Friday-Sunday.
4) Total decibel output may not be more than 95 dB at 20 paces/40 feet after midnight, and may be no more than 90 dB at 20 paces/40 feet after 2:00 A.M.

The Sound Squad will be monitoring sound-levels with decibel-readers, and what will be considered “reasonable output” as the situation demands, after 2:00 A.M. Failure to comply with their requests will be grounds for your removal from the event. If the police arrive with noise complaints, they may be directed toward specific camps which are suspected of violating our Sound Policies.

Unfortunately, Lakes of Fire 2010 is not blessed with five square miles of open playa. We have a relatively small location, local neighbors on whose good humor this event depends, and hilly terrain that propels sound to relatively distant locations in ways we can’t predict. The Sound Squad asks that all camps and participants respect the needs of our neighbors and keep sound output within reasonable levels. Please protect the safety and success of Lakes of Fire by complying with all sound restrictions when they are in effect. Should you choose otherwise, the Sound Squad, which is tasked with protecting this event, will start making the choices for you.

VOLUNTEERS: WE NEED YOU!
Lakes Of Fire is a 100% volunteer run event. Whether it’s building the mighty effigy, organizing the A-maze-ing parking lot, or even constructing this handy-dandy survival guide everything is done by volunteers exactly like you. So don’t just participate, volunteer-ipate! And become an integral part of Lakes of Fire. We’ve got a place for you no matter what your skill set.

If you think you’d like to join our motley crew of do-ers, moties and super(wo)mans, please sign up at http://Lakesoffire.org/volunteer-ipate/ Or contact Breedlove at Breedlove@lakesoffire.org

LEAVE NO TRACE: THE PRIME DIRECTIVE.
Lakes of Fire is a leave no trace event, that means we pride ourselves on leaving the site even cleaner than we find it. We count on every single participant to pick up after themselves and to pick up other litter they see dropped on the site. There is no dumpster on site; be prepared to take home everything you bring including your garbage and recycling. Smokers, bring a tin for those cig butts. Chose cans for that beer and soda not glass bottles. Everyone must bring garbage bags for your trash and be sure it makes it all the way home with you for proper disposal. Want to be extra helpful? Join our Earth Guardians for during event site cleanups and post event complete sweep. Let’s leave the site even better than we find it! http://www.Lakesoffire.org/volunteer-ipate/

Or, you can contact Breedlove at breedlove@lakesoffire.org.

That’s all for now!

Can’t wait to see you at Lakes of Fire (2010).

xoxo,

PLACEMENT: WHERE YOU LAND!
Creating a Theme Camp, Workshop and/or bringing your Art installation is your gift to the LoF community. Your inspiration and commitment is the badge of a true Participant! The Placement Team is here to focus your vision, interpret your needs into physical space, integrate that vision into the landscape, and mark you on the map.

All projects needing placement must register in advance online. You must be placed by a Placement Team member. The Placement Team will contact all artists, educators, and theme camps to discuss space and aesthetic needs, so you can be placed to create a logical and magical flow within the event. It’s in your interest to work with the Placement Team if you have special needs such as sound equipment, adult material, or kid-specific activities. These are also the people you need to contact to get your events for the What Where When bulletin. You will be contacted for details about your listing.

Placement requests will be considered on a first come/first served basis. Someone from your group must be on site by Friday, 6-25, 12:00 noon to hold your reserved placement location. Maps of the land will be published before the event. You’re encouraged to print your own copy and bring it along.

There will be a designated area for RV’s, car camping and quiet vs. loud (sound) camping. In some cases, you will be able to drive your car to deliver your gear, but some areas are closed to car access. Please bring a wagon or many hands to carry. If you require electricity, please bring it. Those requiring extra set up time should discuss their needs with the Placement Team. Theme camps wishing to have sound – even if it’s just a boombox – must advise the Placement Team about the level they expect to have. They will then be placed with consideration to other sound camps and campers. Camps above a certain wattage (tbd) will be subject to special placement.

The deadline for registering theme camps is June 5th 2010. Submit your plans for a theme camp <a href=/event/theme-camps/">here.

RANGERS: Your friends.
Rangers are participants just like you. They are the eyes and ears of the event, and their purpose as volunteers is to facilitate a positive and safe environment for their fellow participants. Rangers wear khaki clothing with a LoF Ranger logo. They will be walking around during the entirety of the event and are easily flagged down. You can also stop by the central Ranger station, which can be found on the map. Rangers prefer that you practice radical self reliance first and ask them for help second. However, all participants are encouraged to ask for assistance when they need it. Make sure to hug Rangers as they pass by your camp. That way you know they aren’t just a robot army.

As we prepare for this years Lakes of Fire event we are hoping to get as many ranger volunteers as possible trained and ready to participate. If you are a currently trained LoF Ranger or BRC Ranger you can skip straight to picking your shifts (see end of note). If you are new to Rangering, there are three opportunities available for training; two are LoF specific and one is a full Black Rock Ranger training for the big burn in the desert that also includes a Lakes of Fire primer.

Lakes of Fire event ranger training is a separate training from BRC Ranger. The session is about 2 hours and covers a wide range of topics designed to prep you for the LOF event but it does not certify you to ranger at Black Rock City. If you attended a Lakes of Fire Ranger training in 2009, you are welcome to attend again this year but it is not mandatory that you do so.

Below are the dates, times, and locations for trainings:

Friday June 18th
7:00 P.M. – -9:00 P.M.
Chicago IL
Shoebockslandia (RSVP drshoebocks@comcast.net for directions)

Thursday, June 10th
6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.
Detroit, MI
Detroit Temple Site (RSVP detroitcooky@yahoo.com for specific
directions and to bring items)

Friday June 25th, 2010
10:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.
Combined Lakes of Fire and Black Rock Ranger Training.
The Stage, Center Camp, Lakes Of Fire
Lacota MI
Note:This training qualifies you to ranger at both Lakes of Fire and 0Black Rock City. This training is highly recommended for all new rangers looking to ranger at either event.

Once you choose the best training option for you please RSVP to email drshoebocks@comcast.net and let him know the date and location of the training you will be attending.

For 2009 Rangers and current BRC Rangers who want to come straight in to volunteer please also email him at drshoebocks@comcast.net and we’ll get right to scheduling your shifts.

Whew!

Told you there was a lot here!

See you at Lakes of Fire 2010 (A Spaced Oddity)

Hey Hey Everyone!

Can you feel the joy? Lakes of Fire 2.0 opens its doors in less than six weeks!

Here is some more important information regarding Lakes of Fire 2010 (A Spaced Oddity). We know there’s a lot here, but please check it out as thoroughly as you can, so that you can be 100% plugged in and checked in for Lakes of Fire 2010 (A Spaced Oddity). This event which opens its doors on Thursday, June 24th at 12:00 noon!

Ticketing Update:
Ticket sales on-line are now closed!

Please don’t forget you must have your ticket barcode in hand to enter the gates at Lakes of Fire. Everyone — including volunteers, performers, producers, and participants of all kinds — must have tickets to attend. Thanks to all of you who have already purchased!

CAMPING
Theme camp, Art Installation, and Workshop placement is still available! Fill out our placement worksheet.

Lakes of Fire has primitive camping. Aside from porta-potties, the only amenities you’ll find on-site is the ground, to prevent you from falling into the Void. Aside from this, there are a limited number of fire rings for small camp fires, and several dozen picnic tables. The site also offers a small number of showers for public use. (Ask at the Greeters’ station for details.) But there are no cabins, no food concessions, and no Starbucks. Rely on yourself for your survival.

Here are some of the very basics that you will need:
Tent
Bedding (sleeping bag/pillow)
Changes of clothes (both warm and cool weather)
First aid kit
Sense of humor
Rain gear
Matches/lighter
Bug Spray
Sun screen
Flashlight
Food
Water/drinks
Ear plugs
Eating utensils
Cookware
Garbage bags
Bacon

You can find more information here: http://www.lovetheoutdoors.com/camping/Checklists.htm. Failure to bring these necessities will result in way less of a good time.

LEAVE AT HOME:
Fireworks – they are illegal in the state of Michigan
Guns or weapons of any kind
Pets – aside from ADA-qualified assistance dogs
Glass – a serious impediment to our Leave No Trace Principle, if it breaks. Cans are preferred. Our venue already has some issues with this problem.
Firewood from outside the state of Michigan – this is also against the law due to bug infestations. Don’t worry, there is plenty of firewood on the site.
Illegal substances; i.e. illicit drugs of any kind.

PRINCIPLES: How we do it!

Our rules, regulations, and binding principles are simple, and can be found here: http://www.burningman.com/whatisburningman/about_burningman/principles.html

The distilled version is this:
1) Ask first
2) Protect the community
3) Leave no trace

There are to be no sales or concessions, of any kind, at Lakes of Fire. Do not attempt to hawk your wares, whatever they may be. Lakes of Fire is a commodity-free zone.

SAFETY: Watch it.
Lakes of Fire is a 76 hour outdoor event. You’re expected to rely on yourself for all of your basic needs. Please refer to the Camping section in “Basics”.

Please prepare for rain, wind and other extreme weather. Failure to do so may result in way less of a good time.eware of toxicodendrons-radicans (Poison ivy). Leaves of three? Let it be! Poison ivy looks like this. toxicodendrons-radicans are found mostly, but not exclusively, in the wooded areas of this property.

Unlike the playa, Southwest Michigan is home to a variety of wild animals. Participants /must/ take measures to ensure their food and trash are properly secured and stored where unwanted raiders cannot find a meal, make a mess, or create a health hazard.

If you’re severely allergic to bee stings, or bug bites, please make sure to take the appropriate precautions. A once-over check for ticks before you leave is a good idea as well.

We encourage self-reliance in all situations, but some medical precautions are in place, including a volunteer medical team, and an on-call ambulance if needed. More information on our medical staff and accommodations are found further along in this survival guide.

Lakes of Fire 2010: A Spaced Oddity will be for you, and by you. Like last year, you’ll enjoy outdoor camping, both in theme camps and in open camping settings; music, a glorious effigy, large and small scale art (both fiery and otherwise), a carnival atmosphere, and all of the creative energy and wild spirit that you and hundreds of your closest friends from around the Great Lakes (and the world) can bring! Envision the Great Lakes version of Black Rock City. Lakes of Fire will be smaller than Burning Man, more accessible, and with rolling hills, forests, and fields instead of open playa. You won’t get dust storms or temperature swings. But you’ll surely enjoy the mosquitoes, rain, and toxicodendrons-radicans.
